Correction: Alpha Teach yourself to ASL in 24 hours book is not recommended! I will keep you all in touch for right book/video training for learning ASL.

    Thanks,

Books need videos to show hearing how to make signs properly. Many now use the "Signing Naturally" series of books, which include lessons on Deaf Culture as well as videos for better sign practice.

    Highly recommended!

I agree with Brance - I don't recommend this book (even though I authored it :) ) because the process was so audist and so frustrating. Without going into a LONG discussion here, it was originally supposed to be a DVD but the publisher changed his mind - and the photos were so dark, and did not have the arrows they were supposed to have, blah, blah, blah.

I do recommend it for the cultural and grammatical information (and I believe Brance agrees) - but for the signs, no. One thing I am relieved about, however, is that the publisher finally allowed me - after a lot of battles - to emphasize in the book that nobody can learn ASL from a book. Whew.

Thank you for your comment! I got some advice from our pals on what materials should be good for ASL users. Signing Naturally is one of few choices.
    Thanks!
